Gilbert will host two rounds of Boys Substate Soccer. On Monday, May 21st we will be hosting Bondurant-Farrar for a 6:30 p.m. contest. The winner of Monday's contest will play the winner of Garner-Hayfield and Gladbrook-Reinbeck on Wednesday, May 23rd at 6:30 p.m. Good Luck to the Boys Soccer Team.

We would like to congratulate the Gilbert Tigers Girls Track team on their fourth consecutive district championship. The Tigers also won their fourth successive HOIAC conference track championship last week. A special congratulations to Kenzie Hosch and Gabby Stearns who have been a part of these championship teams for all four years of their high school careers. The Tigers are coached by Karl Terrones, Wayne Henryson, and Jodi Hurn. Congratulations and good luck to the girls as they compete at the State Track Meet this weekend!

Girls Regional Soccer pairings have been announced by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. The Gilbert Tigers have received a bye in the first round which is played on Tuesday, May 29th. Gilbert will host the second round game on Friday, June 1st at 6:00 p.m. Gilbert will play the winner of North Polk and Carlisle contest, which is played at Norwalk on May 29th.
The winner of the Gilbert game vs. North Polk/Carlisle winner will play on Monday, June 4th at Ankeny at 5:00 p.m. Possible opponents on that side of the bracket are Centerville, Pella Christian, Ballard, or Bondurant-Farrar. The Champion of that game will advance to the State Tournament in Muscatine June 7th - June 9th.
NOTE: Due to the Girls Soccer Team playing in the Regional Soccer Tournament on Friday, June 1st, we have moved the JV/Varsity Softball game vs. West Marshall to Wednesday, June 20th @ 5:30.

The Ames Octagon Center for the Arts is hosting its first-ever Middle School Art Exhibit for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders from Boone and Story Counties. Eighteen Gilbert Middle School students have been chosen to have their art work represented. The Octagon is located in downtown Ames, one block north of the Public Library, at 427 Douglas Avenue. Allyson Hileman, Education Director, is the curator of the show and can be reached at 515.232.5331 ext. 226, should the need arise. (No art work may be removed from the show until the exhibit closes).
GMS Art teacher, Mrs. Prater, has delivered the art work to the Octagon and will take responsibility for repacking and picking it up at the end of the show and returning it to GMS students at school, MONDAY MAY 21st. Participating students should come to the Art Room after school, May 21st, to pick up their art work.

Karl has been selected to participate in the 2012 Iowa Shrine Bowl at Jack Trice on Saturday July 21st at 7 p.m. Coach Auderer will be the Defensive Coordinator for the North Team. The goal of the game is to help the Iowa Shriners raise money for children's hospital. Game tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the gate.

The Balancing
Act, a television program airing on Lifetime, is offering $300,000 in 21st Century educational
tools through the Dream School Challenge Contest in an effort to promote
learning for the next generation.
One winning school will receive prizes and educational tools worth $150,000
including a district license for CurriculumLoft, a class set of Kuno tablets, and a chance to
appear on the Lifetime network.
Five other schools will receive prizes worth $30,000 each for a total of
$300,000 given through the sweepstakes.
The sweepstakes is being offered in conjunction with the program's Parent Teacher Corner series, which address issues in K-12
education in America for an audience of parents, teachers, administrators, and
community members.

Penny Davis, GHS secretary, will be sending out an email when caps and gowns are ready to be picked up. If any fees are owed they must be paid prior to picking up the caps and gowns.
All seniors must be in good standing to go through the graduation program.

The Gilbert Community School District and the Gilbert Education Association will be hosting the annual employee retirement reception on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the High School Commons. This reception will honor the staff members who are retiring this year to pursue new horizons. The following employees are retiring: Rosalyn Brandt (16 years), Marcy Good (20 years), and Maribeth Madden (24 years). Anyone in the community is welcome to attend. Please come and show your appreciation for their years of service to Gilbert students and to wish them well as they begin the next chapter in their lives. Cake and punch for everyone!

Join the Gilbert HS FCCLA on Friday mornings from 7:15-8:00 AM for their weekly Friday Morning Cafe in the HS FCS Room. Menu items include a variety of coffee drinks, hot chocolate, real-fruit smoothies, freshly baked muffins and bread, doughnuts and breakfast sandwiches. The Cafe is open to students, teachers and community members. All proceeds from the Cafe support student leadership activities.

The Gilbert Community has a wealth of knowledge through the parents in our district. The Foundation has set up a committee to create a database that would help the district to utilize all the parent expertise that we have in our district. This database will consist of a list of parents/Gilbert Supporters and their area of expertise. This valuable information can help to assist the district with projects, for professional advice, and in other areas.
